Established in 2015 by a dedicated collective of Rio de Janeiro musicians, Casa do Choro stands as a pivotal nexus for safeguarding cultural heritage, embracing contemporary expressions, and forging the future of Brazilian music.
This vibrant hub animates the cultural landscape with weekly performances and eclectic events, encompassing festivals and educational seminars, all showcasing the finest exemplars of choro and the broader tapestry of Brazilian rhythms.
A treasure trove of Brazil's musical legacy, its esteemed Collection offers public access to an invaluable array of scores, recordings, and visual arts, bridging past and present.
For over two decades, the innovative Escola Portátil de Música has cultivated both artists and aficionados, drawing inquisitive minds globally to explore the profound language of choro.
In 2023, Casa do Choro proudly presents the "Annual Plan 2023" initiative, graciously sponsored by Icatu, Sergio Bermudes Advogados, and CNPC, under the auspices of the Rouanet Law from the Ministry of Culture/Federal Government.
This visionary project encompassed educational programs and practical workshops designed to nurture professional skill sets, facilitating the entry of Casa do Choro's students into the professional sphere. Furthermore, it prioritized the conservation and accessibility of the most comprehensive collection of choro musical scores, recognized as Intangible Heritage of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro and as Cultural Heritage of Brazil.
